THE MUSEUM COLLECTION OF MILITARY CANTEENS!

This pamphlet titled "The Museums Collection Of Military Canteens" is a reprint from the Museum Service Bulletin of the Rochester Museum of Arts and Science Center and is dated June 1964. It is a broad overview of some of the collection of which there are three photos. But one is a group of four from the Colonial and Revolution period. There are 6 pages. This is in like new condition.

TWO VOLUME SET ON EARLY TRADE GUNS!

This Two-Volume Set Titled "Proceedings Of The 1984 Trade Gun Conference" was sponsored by the Arthur C. Parker Fund For Iroquois Research. These soft-cover books measure approx. 11" by 8 1/2". Part 1-"Dutch And Other Flintlocks-From 17th Century Iroquois Sites" by Jan Piet Puype, A Dutch Researcher. There are numerous photos and illustrations within the 120 pages. This is a fascinating work predominately on locks and lock plates. Contents are: Problems In Research Methodology, Theoretical Dating Problems, Biasing Factors, Mayer's Book, Terminology Questions, Uncontrollable Variables, Dating Features, Detailed Assessments Of Lock Plate Types Found On Seneca Sites, The Sites: Inventory And Commentary, Consistencies Between Locks and Sites, Correlations Between Trade and Manufacture, Summary and Conclusions In Several Appendix subjects. Part 2- "Selected Papers"...This second volume is selected papers by various authors including: George Shumway, T.M. Hamilton, E. A. Huff. This volume contains numerous illustrations and photos, especially of the English Pattern Trade Guns. There are 113 pages in this volume. WILDERNESS KINGDOM-THE JOURNALS AND PAINTINGS OF FATHER NICHOLAS POINT

This is the RARE 1st edition from 1967. Father Nicholas Point , lived among the Flatheads, Coeur d' Alenes, and Blackfeet from 1840 to 1847. This book contains 285 paintings with 232 of them in color. It contains first hand information on customs, habits, family life, religion, war, hunting, dances and clothing. Paintings were often bright colors because trade paints were used. According to John C. Ewers, noted Historian and author of "Native American Life", who states about this book that "only the author accurately described and detailed the life of the tribes in the Northern Rockies, as at that time, there was no other population there". If you are interested in Native American history of the Rockies, this book is a must have! Dust jacket shows wear and a few minor tears and rips. The book itself is in EXCELLENT condition. EXPLORING THE WEST by Herman J. Viola

This book is copyrighted 1987 by the Smithsonian Institute and is a first edition. This hardbound book is an excellent history of explorations of Western America including many by the military. There are 256 pages with 8 chapters. Chapter titles are: Jeffersons Vision, From Sea to Shining Sea, The Great Reconnaissance, Arsenic and Directions, Megatheria At Large, The Last Frontier, End Of An Era and Toward A New Sensibility. There are numerous excellent paintings, drawings and photographs. This book measures approx. 11" by 9" and is in excellent condition. There are three lectures by distinguished scholars: The American Revolution As A Successful Revolution by Irving Kristol(Professor at New York University), The Revolution Of Sober Expectations by Martin Diamond (Professor at Northern Illinois University), Freedom In A Revolutionary Economy by G. Warren Nutter (Professor at University of Virginia). These lectures are an economic viewpoint of causes etc. for the War Of Independence. There are many illustrations, paintings and photographs. This is an excellent historical overview of Western America. This book is in very good condition with no loose pages. The Iroquois In The American Revolution

THE IROQUOIS IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION-1976 CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS! This paper-bound book was published by the Research Division of the Rochester Museum and Science Center. The conference took place in 1976 during the American Revolution Bicentennial but it was not published until 1981. This book measures approx. 11" long by approx. 8 1/4" wide. and has 48 pages. There are 4 chapters: 1)-Eighteenth Century Political Affairs and The Iroquois League..2)-Iroquois Diplomacy and The New York Fur Trade..3)-The Six Nations Indians In The Revolutionary War..4)-The Tonawanda Reservation 1935-The Way It Was The last chapter is not on the Revolution but was a part of the conference as there was a major display at that time called "Images From The Longhouse,Paintings Of Iroquois Life" by Seneca artist Ernest Smith (1907-1975) This book gives excellent information on early Iroquois Politics. Undreamed Shores: Englands Wasted Empire In America

This hardbound book was written by Michael Foss and is copyrighted 1974. This book is about England's failure to colonize America at a time when she ruled the seas, and of the earliest of her attempts to colonize. There are 186 pages with numerous illustrations, color plates and charts. There is some pencil scribbling and marks from an eraser on the inside cover. There are NOT any marks on the pages. Other than that the book is in very good condition. The dust jacket is also in good condition with some small creases but no tears. A good book on the earliest efforts at colonizing and the conflicts with the Native peoples. Price: $ 15.00
